    What's your oldest fish?

My oldest was a 1" feeder comet (paid 14 cents for him) that survived in a predator tank for several months without been eaten. I was so impressed that this fish avoided becoming dinner for so long, that I gave him a tank of his own. I've had him for 12 years now and in that time he has...

    Cycling a cold water tank

Interesting stuff. I bought a heater today. I'll try bumping it up to 82F and see if anything happens. I lowered the ammonia to 3ppm as well.

    Cycling a cold water tank

I have a new 53 gallon corner tank (curved front, 90 degree back). It's intended purpose is to house a 10" goldfish that I've had for almost 12 years. I'm currently in the stages of cycling the new filter, but I'm having some trouble. The following method I've done almost 10 times and it...

How often and when to feed?

Alot of good responses here. The timer idea wouldn't work and here's why. This tank is located in the basement where my retired father watches TV late into the night. My tank light is used as ambient light for the entire room. He'll watch TV sometimes as late as 3am. Then the tank light is...

How often and when to feed?

Hello, I have a 125g aquarium with a Blue Zaire Moba Frontosa colony consisting of 7 fish ranging in size from 5 to 10". The tank is filtered with a single Fx5, with a modded spray bar and power head setup. I've had this setup running for around 5 years without any problems. I normally feed...

Fry problem in planted tanks (the $2 solution)

Anyone who has a planted tank with live bearers may know what I'm talking about... I started out with 5 female pineapple swords and 1 male. About 4 months later I have 200+ fry that I cant catch due to the heavy plant growth. I cut the top off a 2L pop bottle, flipped it around, and slid it...

    3d background

Non foam? I'm not sure if you're reffering to the cheap backgrounds you can buy at LFS's for like $30? Those things are garbage. The ones from Gills and Fins claim to be "industrial grade foam" which I would assume would be very hard, and plastic like. I've never owned one before, so I...

125 gallon Frontosa Setup on a budget (load warning)

I went with the 3/4" ID tubing for three reasons 1) The ID of the stock FX5 Valve is 3/4" 2) the 1" stock tubing is ribbed on the inside (reducing flow) 3) I'm a cheap bastard and didn't want to spend $40 on tubing when I have 30' of the 3/4" in my basement. Overall though, I...

    770 Gallon Monster Setup

Beautiful tank! I have two questions though. (probably already answered, but I didn't read through he whole thread) 1) How many beers did it cost you to get your buddys to move it? lol 2) what's that ring on the surface of the water in your feeding video?

125 gallon Frontosa Setup on a budget (load warning)

The piping on the left side of the spraybar forms a "U" shape, which hooks onto the rim of the tank. On the right side, I have a black zip-tie wrapped around the right hand brace on the tank (2 brace system). When its running, the weight of the water in the tubing on the backside of the tank...

125 gallon Frontosa Setup on a budget (load warning)

So I picked up ten 2.5" Blue Zaire Fronts from a local breeder for $100. A fair price considering it's taken me over 2 years to find a seller in my area. I set up a cluster of clay pots for them to hang out in, until I figure out what kind of rockscape I want to use. I was considering using...

26 days, without an update. The threads either a joke or the thing blew out and he's busy dealing with the problems. :duh:

125 gallon Frontosa Setup on a budget (load warning)

I drilled 27 more holes in the intake bringing the total hole count to 55, (1/4" holes). This seems to be just right. The water level behind the acrylic only drops 1/2" while the filter is running, unlike the 6" drop before.

    Anyone from Alberta?

I have lived in the small town of New Sarepta for about 3 years. I found the town to be a wonderful place to live. Friendly, talkative people and such. Edmonton... not so much. I do want to comment on one thing though. I think this is a total misconception that you guys created yourselves...
