Xander, You think a shortnose would work well as a "first gar"?

I'm not sure about specifics but I know out here we don't have the greatest or cleanest tap water but I just use tap water with some Prime™ water treatment and then a little salt. PH around 7 is usually OK. I've had my oldest gar about 6-7 years and he is doing great in these provided conditions.

55cm.... LOL who uses centimeters, that's madness. :ROFL: Anyways, he should be fine. Happened to my Gator Gar about 6-8 months ago. It will pass and he'll be fine. These fish didn't survive hundreds of millions of years choking on stones.
