    scratches in glass

One of my roommates attempted to use my mag-float while I was away. They picked up sand and ignored the horrible grating noises that it must have been making, and now the glass is scratched. Is there any way to fix the scratches? This is a 150 tall with tempered glass.

    150 gallon stocking

So, I'm planning to move away from my bichirs. I have an ornate and delhezi about 11" each and moved them into a 150 gallon tall, but now I want more fish and they will just eat anything I put in there. It's a tall tank, so it isn't really suited to bichirs. I want some surface and middle...

More than one african brown knife?

So this is looking like not a good idea. Is there a slightly larger species of knifefish that would be good for a 150 gallon? ABKs are pretty small. Ideally from africa.

More than one african brown knife?

I have a 150 gallon tall (48x24x36), could I do 2 or 3 ABKs? Or will they fight?

Black Diamond (coal slag) is it safe?

It is supposedly inert. It better be safe, because I just started a tank cycling with 150lbs of 20-40 grit black diamond. It looks great so far, insanely cheap, beautiful sparkly glassy black. Make sure you wash it well. Coal slag is a glassy substance left over in the bottom of the furnace...

    Best schooling fish.

I just typed the following message about congos before reading previous replies and finding them already recommended: How about some congo tetras? They're really nice looking, very active fish. If you were planning on 150 cardinals, maybe get 30 congos? They get reasonably large. If you have...

recommend me an aditional filter for a 125? plz

I agree with OP about canister filters - they're inherently "dangerous" things (from a leakage point of view). A well-done overflow is much safer. A hang-on-back is almost infallibly safe. Sumps are best - you can add huge amounts of volume (I have 40 gallons on a 150 gallon tank) and have...

    Question !?

I love my sump. So very much easier than canister if you have a drilled tank. I've had 3 canisters and they all leaked eventually. Now I'm afraid to move the old tank because the carpet under it is probably moldy. In my parents house, too.

    Substrate change

If its sand, you can just siphon it right out. If you run out of water to siphon with, fill up and wait a day :) Use a slightly larger hose if you have one.

    WHICH WAS HARDER???

I imagine you've never had a tank cooked.

Most important things to look at when purchasing a filter?

Canisters don't have head unless you're doing something weird with them.

My 180 broke upstairs in Apt.

I wonder if its happened yet. Update, OP?

    low maintenance mechanical filtration?

I am setting up a 40 gallon sump on a 150 gallon tank. I have my pot scrubbies, I have my 40 gallon breeder. The plan is, water goes into mechanical filter, goes into bucket with scrubbies, comes out of holes in the bottom of bucket with scrubbies. Gets pumped back up. That leaves the other...

    150 gallon setup

Oh, and how do I go about filtering chlorine/chloramine from tap water for automatic water changes?

    150 gallon setup

So, I'm getting ready to set up a 150 gallon tall (48"L x 24"W x 30"H), which will have bichirs in it. Here's my plan and questions: The tank has a corner overflow, which I will drain to a 40 gallon sump through a 7" filter sock. The sump will be full of biomedia, uv sterilizer, maybe an algae...

Chlorine filter for constant water change?

What should I get for filtering chlorine for a constant water changer? Ideally not RO, I don't have the pressure. Edit: Also, if anyone knows of a good reliable and redundant float valve I can buy, please tell.

    Fluorite substrate?

What do you guys think about seachem fluorite gravel as a bichir substrate? It's a fairly fine gravel. Otherwise, does anyone have experience with fluorite sand? What else could be used?

Should I paint/seal inside of wood canopy?

My wood canopy is nearing completion. Should the inside be painted or sealed in some way? I can try to get photos, but it's 1/4" oak ply on a 2-by-2 frame.
