MAJOR issue with Cichlid (Pearl Eartheater) NEED ADVICE QUICKLY

Thanks guys...I'm more concerned about the status of the two (what appear to be) unscathed fish in the tank. I'm afraid to move them due to spreading the disease to another tank. I'm leaving for business (predictable) for a few days so we'll see what we can do...Guess it's time to nuke the...

MAJOR issue with Cichlid (Pearl Eartheater) NEED ADVICE QUICKLY

Hey gang, so I've got a major problem with my large pearl eartheater (geophagus brasiliensis) he is currently about 9-10" I've had him for approx. 3 years. Please see attached photos. As you can see, there is a major trauma to the mouth area, causing a piece to be hanging and decaying...

    Huge tanks with tiny fish

My favorite tank is the one with 5 silver dollars, 2 moonlight gouramis, 1 african knife fish, 1 buffalo head cichlid, 3 kribs...tons of action. Fun to watch. 75 gallon.

needed mid and top level fish for 56 gallon column tank

kissing gourami's get pretty big...around 12" or more...pretty tight for a column tank. You need something that schools are won't hang out on the bottom...rainbow fish would be a nice addition?

seeing this is worse than hearing about it

I'm not sure what could have caused it, but this is a nightmare for a community tank IMHO...I'd try and quarantine that fish until you can get some healing action in place...you'll have to keep the water SUPER clean to avoid infections...It's odd it's on both sides of the fish?

Quick question about wood in the tank..

(also throwing something in that you "found" or that isn't properly sterilized can introduce fungi, insects and other nasties into your ecosystem)

    Pleco?

I would recommend a pleco that poops a lot...WAIT, THAT'S ALL OF THEM. Gold nuggets stay about 6" and look good...it's really up to you. Some plecos (common, royal, pineapple) get pretty big and are a bioload nightmare...look for the more interesting dwarf species IMHO...it'll probably get...

TL's SECOND ARTICLE OUT! TFH FEB ISSUE :D

Read the article...nicely done. Especially like the point about how the silvers "came to life" in the big ponds...keep it up. It's great to see articles in TFH that aren't just about livebearers and aquascaping.

Admit how long without cleaning the filter....

yeah, I have an open topped 90 gallon that the water evaporates out of at a rate of about 5 gallons a week, so I'm constantly topping it off here and there, for big water changes I do a 30% about every 2-3 weeks...I clean the filters probably every 3 months. Since I moved my TSN from that tank...
