Cherry Shrimp as self sustaining food source??

I think they would all disappear pretty quickly. Small crustaceans are on the menu for virtually every type of fish. They breed readily with no special help needed, but it still takes them time to grow. I imagine most of the initial stock would get picked off before they even breed, and even...

    my 55g tank build

Do not do this. You're talking about over 600lbs of weight on top of a wooden box. Very topheavy. Additionally, the wheelbase is only 12" wide. That makes it very unstable. Those casters probably aren't even rated for that much weight. Bad idea all around.

I had the exact same question about my fish that looks exactly like yours. I really like the look without the bars/spots. Nice fish.

Help - Idea for easier WC in apartment

Seems like you're overthinking it. The easiest and cheapest way to fill a tank is with a hose with a faucet adapter. If the hose won't reach, get a longer hose. If it still won't reach, get an even longer hose. I personally use a Y-adapter on the faucet with one end attached to the hose. I...

    EEEK please help

You removed much of your bio-filter when you changed the substrate. Your tank is going through a mini-cycle. Do water changes and dose with Prime.

    Python?? JUNK!!!

I had the same problem and I took apart my faucet and found there was a flow restricting orifice where the neck of the faucet attached. Took that out and it sucked like a champ.

    high NITRITE now.. wtf

Since you are producing both nitrites and nitrates, that indicates the necessary bacteria are present in at least some amount. Since adding 4ppm ammonia to the tank represents a bioload far in excess of what 10 small fish would produce, you will probably be fine. Just do a big water change and...

    table saws

A table saw is much more versatile than a panel saw. Practically anything you can do with a panel saw you can accomplish with a handheld circular saw and a straightedge.

    55g Stand Question

It's more than adequate to hold a 55g without center supports, and without a plywood top.

Craiglist ad-should I be flattered or offended?

Personally, I wouldn't care one bit. If I sold it to him, that means I thought I was getting a fair price for it. If he can turn around and sell it for more, good for him. Also, there's nothing misleading about using the word "custom". That's exactly what it is. He never claimed he built it...

Tank fully cycled in 3 weeks?

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but it sounds like you said you didn't add any ammonia and there weren't any fish, but you might add one to test. How could your tank possibly be cycled? If you're using the api test kit, the colors at the lower end of the range all look just generally yellowish...

    Anyone Ever Try This?

You don't need experience with it to know it's a bad idea. Neither the hood nor the aquarium are designed to support the weight of another aquarium.

    Hinge for glass lid?

You can order them online, I've seen them at F&S. Just make sure you get the correct ones for the thickness of glass you are using. Alternatively, you can just run a bead of silicone between the panes of glass and it will serve the same purpose.

    Eheim cannister for my 75

I started with a 2217 on a 75g and found it wasn't enough. I added a 2075 and I like it alot. The 2075 would probably be enough on its own.

    Help 55 g Stand

Glad you like my stand. It really depends on how finished a look you want. The absolute cheapest way to go is a simple frame of 2x4's. If you use a carcass and face frame construction like the one above, you might run into the problem of the plywood not being wide enough. A sheet is exactly...

    fish tank vandalism

When a man says, "I don't want decorations on the tank" all he really means is "I don't want decorations on the tank". When a woman hears "I don't want decorations on the tank", she hears "I don't appreciate things you do for me, you're stupid and your ideas are stupid, I take you for granted."...
