About the only thing I can find that comes close to my issue is a herpes virus found in catfish. It can lay dormant for years and then kill in 24 to 48 hrs. Both the catfish and bichir are now dead and the convict is still unaffected. I looked at the gills of the bichir and there was almost...
Also, the ornate bichir has died and at last check the catfish was on its side a very labored breathing. Only other fish in tank is a 3" female convict, unaffected.
Yesterday the fish were fine. Noticed a very small cut on the catfish gills and today, this. Water tests are good. Nothing new added to the tank. Has been set up over 3 years. Any ideas?
Yeah that about normal. I've had mine for about 2 years and they still rub the glass from time to time. As far as eating, they can be tempermental when moved.
My tanks are consistently under 6.0ph. Not sure how low b/c my test kit doesn't go that low, but its low enough that I can't keep frogbit alive. I am considering adding some limestone rock from the local rock yard to bring the ph up. My tap water tests at 7.0-7.2 but after a week in the tanks...
Just an FYI- I looked into using pond armour for my build but after lots of reasearch and talking with the manufacturer, I decided against it. Manufacturer says "do not apply to wood". They told me to overlay my plywood with a concrete backer board then us muratic acid to wash down the...
Very doubtful to grow back. Looks like it was born without the pec fins. Albino is a genetic defect and other in the animal are not uncommon. No nubs visable. If it made it this far, it should be ok, just make sure it gets to eat.
Just looked up some filamentosum juvenile pics and they seem to be spotted with a red tail. This ones looks like it has vertical stripes and possibly some red on the tail. So far can't come up with a positive ID and I wanna be sure that I can house it and take care of it properly before...
John knows a vast amount about fish keeping. If I'm not mistaken this is his second monster build so that he could house his 2 arapima gigas, Sam and Samantha. I'm pretty sure his weekly maintenance costs run about $2000 for fresh food and the like. My guess woul be that the fish leave the...
I pulled the ornate out and dropped her in the 75. My 7"-10" bichirs are in the 125 and the 5" ones are in the 40 fuge. Now they are all safe and happy, I hope.
You're very welcome. I had a heck of a time getting mine set up and built, mostly because I could not find the info I needed or wanted before I started. Thought that maybe someone else could benefit from my work. Glad I could help. If you have any questions, shoot me a PM.
