    Amphibian Disease Research

For any of you interested in the rapidly spreading amphibian disease chytridiomycosis, this is a world-wide problem that is spreading rapidly. Simplified ecosystems, such as drainage ponds, ornamental ponds, and even aquariums provide simplified environments that may cause the density of...

    Need snake ID

This was photographed by a stream in MN. Doesn't match the pattern of any commonly found snake in MN. I am assuming it is a color morph. Let me know what you think.

    humans VS the wild

I'm going to expound upon this further. Consider a society of birds. Birds frequently have an alarm call whenever a predator is spotted. This is not beneficial to the bird making the alarm call, because it makes that bird easier to spot for the predator. However, it is beneficial to the...

    humans VS the wild

There is no inherent "badness" in humans compared to other species. Intraspecific competition causes members of a species to treat individuals in the same species as a threat. We're all vying for the same resources, man or otherwise. Even so, cooperation has its merits for any species...

    humans VS the wild

That is true, people do actually live in these places, but frequently they have some modern technology, even if it is at a minimum. I recall a guy who left modern society who placed himself in the savannah with the goal of living like our African ancestors. He could craft tools from what he...

    humans VS the wild

I remember a story about a guy who lived in the African savannah without any modern technology. Not sure if it is true or not. He basically lived as a hunter/gatherer and was successful at chasing cheetahs off their kill for meat. I'm trying to track it down.

    humans VS the wild

The cool thing about science is that it is true even if you don't believe it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cave_painting Just because you don't believe something doesn't mean it can't be discussed. You have the right to not read anything that offends you. Jewish people might be offended by...

new law trying to pass HR 996

Regarding HR 996, this bill is not the same bill as HR 669 proposed several years ago. I participated along with several MFK members in lobbying congress to stop that bill. This bill is different, in that it proposes a mechanism for the government to regulate injurious species individually by...

    Need Expert Help: Herpetology

Is there anyone on this board that is an expert herpetologist or does anyone know of a reputable herpetologist? Even a herpetology board where I might pose this question? I need to find a gene that is exclusive to and ubiquitous in anurans so that I can create an oligonucleotide primer...

Another Research Project: Myiasis by Calliphoridae on the Spring Peeper, P. crucifer

We're working on a method to determine the rate of myiasis of anurans by calliphorid flies. Myiasis of anurans occurs wherever the flies and the anurans share the same habitat. We just don't know how rare an event it is.

Another Research Project: Myiasis by Calliphoridae on the Spring Peeper, P. crucifer

Another research project that I'm working on is a case where our research team found a Pseudacris crucifer specimen that was host to a parasite which developed into a fly we believe to be Lucilia silvarum. This fly commonly lays it's eggs under the skin of larger frogs which is usually fatal...

Against Intellectual Monopoly and the Scrofulous Energy Drink Company

This is a clear case of the failure of capitalism as it pertains to intellectual monopoly. Not only should the concept of idea be from free patent protection, but the stupidity of trademark is detrimental to free society. Patents are detrimental to the advancement of society. No idea can be...
