    Ideas/help to re-home.

I have a ~9" Bala shark I would like to rehome. Recently over the last year or so, two of his other buddy's have passed. This one is pushing 7-8yrs. With the passing, it looks like it's unhappy as there's no one to play with or peck on. And buying the same size fish is too costly. So I would...

DIY sump tank: for the cheapskates (complete build: <$35)

Purpose: to provide mechanical filter for display tank. Also, my fries always find their way to the sump, I'm hoping this will give me an easier time fishing them out. With so much surface area they won't be blown around giving them a higher chance to live than a drip-type I had before dying...

    Chicxulub's cheatin' easy water changer

Lololololol. I have almost the exact same setup. I siphon water from my tank straight into basement drain pipe. And to refill I I made an extra ball valve with a garden hose male adapter at the bottom of my kitchen sink. Taps water straight from the houses brass line. We lazy :)

DIY Wide Diameter Tubing For Faster Siphoning

Such a large tank! I would totally drive the water out with such a tall tank. Hook up a medium powerhead, one end to blow water into tube into drain (if you want to do water change as well) or blow it into a sock filter (water doesnt go anywhere, but less messy). The other end that draws in...

    cpr overflows?

God I hate this thing: a) its $100+ for a plastic box b) doesn't even include filtration area (sump) cost goes up even for a DIY sump @ a reasonable return rate for a reasonable big tank return rate of 800 gph with the CS100: sump, pump = ~250-300$ (no including return plumbing) That's a solid...

Hi, could someone please explain to me why the following occurs: When testing for water parameter if you leave it longer than you should for the color change to occur, say instead of 10min as the instructions say, you leave it for 24hrs... the color gets darker than what it normally would...

Fish poop into a separate container

^^What he said Wetting the organic matter will just just start the leeching process again (granted it's slower since it had time to dry out) but none the less, rinse it everytime you use it mate; its a good idea, I like it! Been meaning to rig up the SAME thing myself. I mean walking to the sink...

    replacing compact fluorescent bulbs

LOL, I light my 30" high tank with 1-2 CFL 23w bulb from Home Depot and it's bright as hell right to the bottom... And i tested going the other way 23w with 3200k and it didnt penetrate as deep. You want WHITE as close to 5100k as possible and you want WATTAGE! Going higher in Kelvins does...

    great cheap poop vac

*applause for find* This thing is genius! I must try and find, I'm in Canada. I too have a 30" tank and I normally siphon with a med. sized airline tube, but always hated that the water ended up in the bucket and adding 2-5g in a 150g annoys me lots! Thanks for find! Gonna look around at LFS...
