I do think Oscars are the most popular Cichlid ever - a lot of people I know family & friends who don't keep Cichlids know of them. I guess it is because many Oscars are brought back to the store when they get to big and everyone just looks at them in amazement at how huge they are.

If I had to pick I would go for a Jack Dempsey with your Oscar. Mine have never bothered each other at all even when the Oscar steals all the food. They just pass by each other - this might be a solution for you but I think everyone else pretty much covered it for you, so just my late opinion :)
