    DIY 180 gallon sump critique

Can you not see the almost identical design this is to mine? Let me revise it here using your photo. In mine, after the moving media, the flow comes out the bottom and into my bacteria box, then flows over a baffle to the pump area. In yours, you make it flow over the baffle first - right after...

    DIY 180 gallon sump critique

With the last baffle removed, you'll be fine too - provided you know a few things. First, if the downflow is blocked, the sump will pump up the water going back to the last divider at the front of the bacteria box. You're bacteria box could be left in open air to dry out at that point, possibly...

    DIY 180 gallon sump critique

I thought about this issue, but is it really an issue? If you have no baffle at the end, the pump could also push all the water in the sump back to the last baffle, up to the tank and over the top, flooding the room. By using that last baffle I have no issue pushing water up to the tank and...

    DIY 180 gallon sump critique

My tank/sump design was done after I was reading up on Be an Animal's design (commonly called Bean Animal now). I then OCD'd my way around a bunch of options and I wanted something completely silent too. Like, OCD silent. Maybe a little pump hum at most. I tripped over full siphon sumps designs...

    DIY 180 gallon sump critique

It does. The sock is mounted high enough the media doesn't go inside the sock itself, just into the same area. When power is restored, the current floats the media back into its area once again. It's the reason my partition also goes all the way to the top in the section after the k2, so it...

Acrylic tank advice - crazing - is this an issue I need to worry about?

Thanks for the replies. I wondered if one inch was pushing it too. The seams appear ok, and aside from the crazing it looks ok - but - I've only seen photos. I have an eight foot ceiling, no basement, only crawlspace access below. I currently have a 30" tall tank in the same spot with a tall...

    DIY 180 gallon sump critique

This is a 75 g sump btw, running a 150g tank. Been running three years now. The ceramic blocks are 8x8x4 Marinepure by Cermedia. The baskets on top are from Lowe's pond supplies, I cut the lip off to make them fit. They are holding 3 boxes (I think) of ceramic bio balls (can't remember the brand...

    DIY 180 gallon sump critique

Well, I lost my sump photos. Only found one diagram, it's old and simple, ignore the numbers, they were changed a little in the end. Just took a few fresh sump photos to post. The purple in the last box with the pump is the heater, I moved that back to the center section to ensure it will always...

    DIY 180 gallon sump critique

My personal change would be to do a panel after the filter pads to raise the water and get a rotation current for the K2 bed. I have a similar design running in my tank, including the smaller return area for the pump. In mine, if the downflow is blocked, the pump can push everything up and still...

Acrylic tank advice - crazing - is this an issue I need to worry about?

Up until now I have only kept glass tanks, mainly because I find a used one I like and it happens to be glass. Well, I've been on the hunt for a BIG tank, and I found one, but it's crazed on one panel. The current owner says this tank is about 16 years old. It's described as 94" long, 30" wide...

For Sale (6) Electric Blue Acara group - (5) hybrid Syn or Blue spotted Synspilums - (3) OB Peacocks

Some photos of the Syn, the OB Peacock, and the EB Acaras. The last photo is of my largest male Syn I'm keeping - just to get an idea of what these fish may become. He's about an inch or two bigger than the rest and the dominant male. He's still pretty mellow though.

For Sale  (6) Electric Blue Acara group - (5) hybrid Syn or Blue spotted Synspilums - (3) OB Peacocks

I've been trying to find a bigger tank (180+) for a reasonable amount for awhile with no luck, and these fish just keeping growing and breeding so it's time to thin them out a bit. The six pack - a breeding group of electric blue acaras, they breed about every three weeks but wit everything...

    Kaldness feedback

I'm using a Kaldnes type, bought on eBay, not sure if it's real or a knock off, but it's been working ok. I watched the video and the thought of breakage came into my head. It's thin plastic, and it does age a bit. I wonder if the speed of flow in the tank could be high enough the pieces are...

    Painted their tanks background Orange

Either way, think of how sharp it would look with some pinoy angels,German blue rams, or electric blue jack demseys or acaras. Goldfish keepers often paint the background blue to make the orange in the goldfish or koi to pop out.
