Looking for The most quiet canister filter

I have a Fluval 406 and also an Eheim 2073 (G90), you have to put your hand on the Eheim to tell that it's running...can't say that about the Fluval. The Eheim is also easier to maintain in my opinion.

    Purigen media bags

I bought a couple of the Seachem welded filter bags to put Purigen into and wasn't impressed with their convienient resealable locking enclosure (basically, it's a fancy zip tie). I experimented with a vacuum bag sealer that's used for sealing food for long term storage in a freezer. I put in...

Got the 300! Filtration ideas needed!

Maybe I missed this, but what's the water turnover rate are you looking to accomplish? If you know that, designing is easier. By using the same pump and increasing the size of the return lines, you basically just decrease the velocity of water returning to the tank. If you're looking for a...

Got the 300! Filtration ideas needed!

To straighten tubing, heat needs to be applied (hair dryer, boiling in water). There's tons of info on the web to walk you through. I've done it like you did with a pipe running through it, but I let it set it in the sun on blacktop driveway for a few days(summer time). It didn't get perfectly...

Got the 300! Filtration ideas needed!

That'll work. Seen it done using flex tubing also (instead of pvc piping)... Not sure why though. Easier? Less resistance?

Got the 300! Filtration ideas needed!

Progressing nicely & looking good. I like the sump idea and bet it'll work great. How many cubic feet, or possibly gallons, does 1500 bio balls equal up to?

    What do you consider "big"...

Big is when a structural engineer is called upon help out (Thank you!), you build as detailed (plus, beef it up extra all on your own). The engineer later recalculates the "as built" and replys, "Damn! You can literally park cars on that floor if you want. That floor ain't moving anywhere!"...

Got the 300! Filtration ideas needed!

The 55 gallon tank idea will work, but don't ever forget about a possible power outage and the flowback that will follow...QUICKLY! You could use an in line check valve(s) to help prevent this, but they are mechanical. Nothing mechanical lasts forever. That's the reason I run bigger than need be...
