    Mbunas and Live Plants?

I am only guessing, but it sounds that it may work if it is heavily planted. I have not been able to make it work, even with plants that were "suitable" for Mbuna. Would that help, if it were stocked big time?

    separating the mbuna and peacocks

I guess I had not thought that it was that big of a deal to have the slate pieces leaning against the glass. I figured that the real weight is on the bottom, and I have seen some crazy stuff that glass can handle. Maybe I should rethink leaning the rocks.

    separating the mbuna and peacocks

Have not posted in while. Fish are growing, no new fish (except pic number 1) and other than many batches of homegrown fry in growout tanks. I have been lurking and hope to spending more time posting. -Mark.

    You Be The Judge?

I did not want to to pile on, but I really did not like the castle thing unless the room, perhaps, had a medieval theme. I like what you have done.

    Best Cichlid Photos...

Thanks. I really got lucky with him, I bought him as a baby with no color. The first two fish, that I just loved, both have since died, so my glow-in-the-dark Ahli is the big Shizzzz of the tank.

cleaning a tank on the floor

My tanks in the basement are not on the floor, but I still take my python to the sump pump for the house--- which is lower than the cement floor. If you got one, check it out as an option.

I wan tto add more cichlids

you might want to add a larger pleco. they seem to do fine in all my African tanks. I have found that it helps to redecorate when adding fish. it throws off the delicate, territorial balance just enough for the new fish to move in.

Here is the a series of pictures: from bare, to first thin coat to fifth thin coat of flat black latex paint. Then a couple of pics of the finished tank. plus as a special MFK viewer bonus, a picture of 39g painted back. If I ever have to temporarily tear down my 125g, I will be painting the...

    Aquaclear biomax

not for a long time. Technically the porous ceramic does clog with "stuff" cutting down the huge amount of surface area, thus sightly limiting the beneficial bacteria colony. so maybe after years of use you may want to exchange some. I end up splitting the current ceramic, seeding a new...
