    Reverse Osmosis

even if some of the water gets siphoned out after the valve closes, there would still be enough water in there to keep the membrane hydrated.

    RO continus water change

with just simply using charcoal filters, do you have any troubles with ammonia coming from them? the charcoal will only break down the chlorine, if you have chloramine in your water, the resulting breakdown of the chlorine is ammonia. now i know noone wants to be adding straight ammonia to their...

    Delayed Eletrical Outlet/Strip?

you will need 2 delay-on-make timers to do the second part. depending on your load (under 1 amp) This will work for you. adjustable delay. you will need to wire it in series with the hot wire to either the outlet or device. if you need more then 1 amp use This One

    electricty solutions?

well to give you a good answer we would need to know the wattage of all the equipment you plan on running on the solar. but a far more cost effective setup would be to ditch all the hob filters, and go with sponge filters powered off of one air pump. then im sure one or 2 solar panels will be...

    Where is the buffer?

let some tap water sit out overnight after dechlorinating it, and read the ph in the morning. sometimes water coming out of the tap will be higher in ph due to the dissolved gasses. also adding co2 will lower the ph if the concentration is high enough. i would think you would need a pressurized...

eheim 1260 overpowering lifereef single overflow

well i ordered one of the black plastic j pipe returns and ordered the wrong size by mistake. thought i had 3/4 inch line but it was 5/8 inch so wouldnt fit on the 3/4-1 inch j pipe. the eheim did come with a one inch barb fitting, and i did have some extra 1 inch tubing, actually used alot...

    poret vrs micron socks

Thank you! thats a great idea, never thought that would be enough to dislodge all the dirt. but i got an email back from stephan and he also agrees that the foam is more for bio, and i should retain my filter socks atleast till the foam gets colonized. looks like i will be rethinking how i will...

    poret vrs micron socks

i am using an eheim 1260. right now with a pretty light stock i get around 3 - 4 weeks before my socks are clogged. while not bad there, i dread pulling them out and washing them because that means a trip to just sit at the laundry matt to wash 4 socks. i do like how they provide 100 percent...

    adding more pond matrix?

first off you need a larger tank for your stock. secondly adding more bio media wont help nitrates. nitrates are best removed by waterchanges. there are some other ways that nitrate reduction can be achived ie by plants or nitrate reactor, but still will not replace waterchanges.

    STAND PIPES

thats a very bad idea. by restricting the drain lines, you risk the chance of a flood if your flow ever changes for wahtever reason. better to have a bit of an overhead then dialing in to the flow that your pumps pushing. unless if your running a herbie style and have an emergancy drain.

Whole House Water Filters--Looking for Advice

you need the backflush with GAC because it will pack down and channel. the back flush on a carbon tank isnt so much as to "clean" the media but as to "fluff" it up so that the water flows evenly through the media. and the backwash is around 15-20 mins, vers a softener tank regenerating takes up...
