A little late but better than never lol. Still beasting at 9 years old and fat as heck... Survived a move and now resides peacefully with some buds including his amphilophus heir apparent in the fish room, a stunning f1 midas.

Always loved this fish.

Nothing special to it really. Main thing I think a lot of people miss is just keeping them long enough to see it grow. Always tell my son who's 5 that I have 2 fish that have been around longer than him lol

Yeah he's about as big as he's gonna get I think. Hasnt out on much size if at all in the last year or two.

He hasn't really grown too much in the past year or two. Probably 13-14" but super thick and tall.

Don't think many people keep fish long enough or we'll enough to know realistic life spans but I think 10-15 years isn't out if the question with how good he's aging. Still lots of energy and vitality and keeping food intake a maintenance level.

7 years old... Still angry as crap

Another 2 years in the books... Still going strong. Easily 20" now. Starting to show a bit of age but still think we have quite a while left. 6 years in.

They're not for everyone, but if you have the tank size and patience they dont dissapoint Thanks about once a week on his system about 40% Takes some time but well worth the wait

He's in a 6x2 150 gallon Yes he has had a female chancho in his tank for quite some time. They've tried to spawn a bunch of times with no success. Thanks very much! The most aggressive fish I have ever had. Constantly bangs the tank if I get anywhere close. Has drawn blood on me in the past...

Long time dead thread.... Well this dude is still kicking the crap out of the tank walls trying to kill me on a daily basis. Just some quick update pics at somewhere like 14" or so.

Another year bites the dust!!! No clue how big he is these days, just know that trying to figure out could be catastrophic lol.

18-20" may not be the biggest out there but the more impressive feat is keeping a beast that long. A lot of large dovii out there today were farm raised and bought large. Ill bet a small percentage were grown from 3" with 1 person.
