Plant only filtration (why not popular in the hobby???)

Generally speaking yes, it should be fine. If you are raising fish to eat them (aquaculture) or plan to eat the plants (hydroculture) then I would potentially reach out to to the manufacturer to get information regarding the materials used and manufacturing process.

    Limestone in rift tank?

If his nitrites are spiking then his tank is not cycled. As for the pros and cons of limestone in the tank, you basically hit the nail on the head. It definitely should not be effecting the ammonia, nitrites, or nitrates in the tank. Limestone raises and stabilizes the tank pH closer to what...

What Fishroom Would you Rather Have?

I would do #2, but probably wouldn't do quite as much "finish work." What does it for me is the larger tank - probably the same as others!

    Need help lighting my aquarium!!!

I was about to post about the Current USA Satellite + LEDs, but then read Nigelk485's post. I had one 48"(legs expand to 60") on each of my 125g tanks and it was perfect. I loved that I could control the colors, and had each set slightly differently.

How often should I change my kenyi's water?

Brown_snake, the real key that some have hinted at is water testing. If you don't have a freshwater test kit, such as API, then get one, or you need to take your water to your LFS to get it tested. You need to test your water pretty regularly for a while to get an idea for how much waste your...

    Help with Nitrate in 240g

I'm confused. You show that you have an API test kit, but say you are measuring nitrAtes to be 0.2. None of the API test kits I've seen can measure nitrAtes to those levels, jumping from 0 to 5.0. Also, a nitrAte level of 0.2 is not a problem in the slightest, even if you are trying to grow...

    Input Requested: PA school choices

Also thank you to SumoNinja. I definitely agree that the school you attend doesn't usually matter (in fact almost never). This is especially true for PAs as employers only really care if you are certified and have good letters of recommendation.

    Input Requested: PA school choices

Rivers2K - thanks so much for your input. I was actually in the process of replying when the site went down a few days ago...grr The national average for PAs is actually just over $100K, but I actually have a likely job available to me upon graduation. My father, an MD, is a co-owner in a...

    Input Requested: PA school choices

I know a fish forum isn't exactly the ideal place to ask for input on this, but I have gotten some great feedback on other things so I thought I would give it a try. At a minimum it gives me a chance to write out my thoughts, which is always helpful. So, I have been working toward gaining...

T5 or LED lights for 125 gallon?

I second the current satellite+ lights they are awesome. I had the 48-60" set on each of my 125g.

    mbuna tank

Well to answer your question, there are a lot of canister filters that have good track records. The real question is what you are looking to spend and how heavily you stock your tank. A lot of people like to "overstock" an mbuna tank to help keep aggression down or at least spread it around a...

    Cheap Filter Cartridges

I am guessing Gill Blue just took some pieces of sponge and then the equivalent of filter floss/pillow stuffing and "stuffed" them into the filter cartridge portion of the filter. I used to do this. Word of caution, do not overfill the area with sponges/floss as it could cause the filter to...

What food brings out the best color in your fish?

I have had wonderful results with NLS, and it is my number one choice. I also have had good results with Omega One and Hikari products, but NLS is my staple.

FS - Aquariums and equipment for sale - Knoxville, TN - pick up only

Black aquarium and stand sold, along with a lot of my miscellaneous equipment. I still have the cherry 125g and stand (3rd picture in first post). I would do $200 for the tank, stand, and covers. I also still have the Fluval 406 and 206.
