    Spinibarbus denticulatus diet/plant snacking?

I picked up a group of six juvie Phoenix barbs a few weeks ago and am in the process of moving them (at about 2-2.5") to my outdoor pond. Before I do, though, I have one important question: how prone are they to eating soft-leaved plants like cabomba, hornwort, and vallisneria? I don't mind...

South American Eartheaters & Madagascar books - New Orleans, LA - Ship or pick up

One used copy of the hard-to-get book by Thomas Weidner _South American Eartheaters_ published by Cichlid Press. Book is in very good condition with perfect binding but bent corners (what can I say? I used it!). There are two 1/2" dirt marks on the top of the book when it is closed. $300...

Advice on grow out tank set up for young paretroplus?

I've used good old south Louisiana tap water, which is pretty stable at about 7.2 pH and has high mineral hardness, and moderately hard kH. It certainly isn't anywhere as soft as most RO water, but most Paretroplus aren't too picky about water chemistry provided it is warm and stable (no...

Advice on grow out tank set up for young paretroplus?

My understanding of the dambabe is that they are difficult to get large due to conspecific aggression. That can be the standard, of course, for most larger Paretroplus. I would think if you are getting a batch of Paretroplus - pretty much regardless of species - you should get as large a group...

Advice on grow out tank set up for young paretroplus?

As Duanes says, 82 is a good temp. Most Paretroplus, IIRC, come from very warm waters in Madagascar. I just ordered some P. dambabe from an Aquabid vendor who is highly recommended. They arrive tomorrow :) I'm just hoping they hold up - as Duanes notes, they aren't easy to grow out and up...

Advice on grow out tank set up for young paretroplus?

What species? While behavior is somewhat identical across species, there is still some tremendous difference between them, IME. At that size - if you haven't gotten them already - you should keep warm water and an eye on them for ich. Lighting isn't a big concern, but clutter/decor would be...

    Synodontis sp. 'Crocodile Island'

Those are very nice, I know there have been discussions on planetcatfish about the exact species. Are you planning on keeping them on dark substrate? Any worries about them staying too dark?

    Mahseer ID help

Khudree has dark blue finnage and "high" back; the back is easy to spot in specimens larger than 6" or so, but difficult in smaller ones. It isn't unusual for copper masheers to be sold as something else. It has happened a few times when I dealt with vendors not named Wes. : ) Those two...

    Mahseer ID help

Black edgings on caudal fin and eye size point me in the direction of Neolissichilus hexagonalepis, the copper masher. You'll find out for certain as it fills out, all the coppers I've had are greedy, fat pigs.
