Use it on the 30g. FW has to be too far out of wack before a skimmer will help.

    Protein Skimmer Help

Scratch the idea of the pin wheel impeller. The Remora won't work with that modification. There is a rather finicky orfice that requires the pump to be at its original specs.

    Protein Skimmer Help

I have the big brother version of that kicking around in my shed. I'll see if it has a label on it. Off hand, I can't recall the name of the manufacturer. The pump is pretty easy to upgrade to a pinwheel impeller using a BioBall.

That brings back old memories. I called this The Bait Shack.

    My predator tank

I'm just kidding. It doesn't really look bad, but it's a predictable Petco look. It works well for goldfish or neon tetras. Your fish will look much better in a natural aquascape. However it is your aquarium so you should go with what you like. An actinic blue light at night time will make your...

    Drip setup?

You will need to have the overflow in the sump. It also needs to be in sump chamber with the return pump because that is where the variation occurs due to evaporation and refilling. If the sump design allows variation in other chambers, then they will be fine too.

    Need help with tannin removal.

Duanes, thanks for that comparison. It gives me better faith in my pH tests. I know that my chlorine/chloramine test reagents are bad because they give a reading of zero, but the city water is loaded with it. The hardness reagents are also bad. John, there is row of rose bushes outside of that...

    Need help with tannin removal.

The exit wound is always larger than the drill bit. This is why you need to start with a smaller bit. Then with the larger bit drill from the outside and inside but only to the center of the wall.

    Need help with tannin removal.

In my experience, I have found that it is easier to drill all the way through the wall with a small drill bit. This guarantees that the inside and outside holes are lined up. If you drill from the inside, the drywall will take less damage.

    Need help with tannin removal.

This old data port was my target location for drilling through the wall for the overflow plumbing. Unfortunately it has a metal box behind it. A lower location seems like it will look just fine.

    Need help with tannin removal.

The nitrates from the reactors is almost the same as the prior tests. It appears slightly darker than the other's. My gravel vac has been misplaced. I had to resort to the one I made for my 250g. But unfortunately I repurposed the hose for other projects. I can't win. I found a section of...

    Need help with tannin removal.

That's very interesting. I was part of the crowd that thought tannins had more of an affect on the water chemistry across the board. My alkalinity is 15ppm and hardness is 120ppm. I have seen swings in the pH after running my reactors. My test kit is made by Taylor for the pool industry. It's...

    Need help with tannin removal.

Well spank my arse and call me Sally. Guess who has the filthiest gravel on this side of the internet. The water change was actually quite a bit more than 50%, and my math says that there should have been a difference in the testing. The only thing I can imagine is an unrealistic concentration...

    Need help with tannin removal.

I just completed a 50% water change on that tank (I didn't vacuum the gravel). I'll be retesting the nitrates after it mixes thoroughly. The schmutts in the gravel got stirred up during the refilling, so the new test should indicate where the problem is. I'll post updates shortly.

    Need help with tannin removal.

Good thinking! It turns out that the lake is clean ,but my tank is polluted. I have a lot of work to do. The ammonium/ammonia was at zero so I ran the reactors through the night. I suspect that the crushed coral contributed to the nitrate concentration but most of it must have been from the...
