    For African cichlids,use the unsoftened water for sure.Just make sure you have a good ph,and you should be just fine.

    Would you buy this tank?

    I would pass,only because of the age.thats alot of water to clean if the silicone is getting weak.Have a long hard look at all the seams.Used glass tanks scare me. You can build a glass sump for next to nothing,spend the rest on a new tank.

    If you did water changes it would live....but it would be far from happy.imo a 120 wide 4x2x2 is the prefect oscar tank,for 1.you can also keep smaller tank mates..i had a 13" oscar in a 90 standard 4x1.5x2 and it didnt look right,so I upgraded. min 75 to 90.but i wouldnt keep an oscar for...

    Things you hate about Fishkeeping

    Leaking canisters. algea on anubius. And number 1 would be that our well water sucks (nitrates),so I fill 60 gallon drums with water from my dads house.Hes on city water.Then drive them to my house in the truck.Everyone that can use their own water from their tap.........so lucky!!

    perscription drugs FOR FISH??? with??

    I have taken fish out of the tank and used peroxide before with great results. Saves treating the whole tank. Not sure the fish loved it,but it was for their own good. Works great for minor bumps and cuts.

    My oscar had this for a while. I belive one of the thin rays broke and is fealing. Keep your water clean and keep an eye on it. My guy healed up just fine. Took awhile though. Give him time and clean water. I keep my nitrate under 20 ppm at all times.

    what is the worst advice you've ever had?

    Was told I could add an oscar after my new setup had the filter running for 24 hours. No cycle needed!!! They forgot to mention that if I added them within 24, that I would be doing 50% water changes once or twice a day for a month. Thank you LFS:P

    I had the same issue.easy fix just get some clear plumbers grease. Worked great on mine!!
