My Petco is alright compared to the others. The employees are at least somewhat knowledgeable in fishkeeping, some are even too picky in letting people buy fish. Once I tried to buy an angelfish, the guy asked what I had in my tank. The tank I intended to put it in was my 55 gallon community...
Those are some feisty killies! Good thing your angels are ok.
Hope you get the African Butterfly Fish soon, they do look real cool.
For some other fish you could add, Leopard Ctenopoma are interesting predators, though they can be a bit pricey.
I like tanks that have some plants in it, preferably more the denser side than the lightly planted side. I think many fish feel more secure with plants around them for cover if they need it. Its your decision on what you want though.
Your tank looks very nice!
If it is bad, then I would suggest rearranging the tank or adding more tiger barbs (preferably around the same size as all the others), as then the tiger barbs may establish their own hierarchy.
I agree with the cycled media solution.
I'm not to sure about the bottled bacteria stuff though, it seems that it should work but I have not had conclusive results. Others do claim they have had good results with it though.
Convict cichlids grow 6 inches long max, though a pair of convicts in a 20 gal would be a bit tight. Rams can be sensitive, but a pair in a 20 gallon would look very nice as they are colorful fish.
Its your choice what setup you want, it matters all on your tastes.
Sorry for your loss. No many people realize it bu those carnival game fish do have potential and can grow into great fish.
With a 29 gallon some options include a planted tank with community fish, or a tank with some cool oddball, such as a African Butterfly Fish or a Crocodile fish.
Thanks for the reply.
I have found most fish do enjoy lower light levels because the waters in nature that they live in are not brightly light. Fish feel safer in the dim lighting and don't like bright light in my tanks as well.
