I'm far from an umbee expert but my male at that size had long trailers but I suppose he (if it is) could just be a bit slow to develop them. I can post a pic of mine at that size if you want.

I'd stay away from wild cought roaches but feeder roaches are fine. Some species like dubia are hard shelled and the fish will shoot ground up roach bits through their gills. Blatta lateralis are great for feeding, they are soft bodied and about the size of a cricket.

Very nice! Mine is about the same size as yours but mine doesn't seem to have as strong mature markings as yours does.

My flowerhorn I've had since Sept 2007, she's my baby. :) My umbee. I didn't get him because it's the "fish 2 have" I got him because I had yet to even see another umbee anywhere other than online.

The FH in my avatar is from Petsmart, I bought her in Sept 2007.

I use Thera +A jumbo. I cut up the pellets to make it easier (and less messy) to eat since neither of my fish are very big.

Thanks, I'm really happy that he's making a recovery but it's sad that he'll most likely have some permanent scarring from it, it could be a lot worse though.

Well it's been a month now so I thought I'd give an update on his condition. The HITH finally stopped spreading and now only the four deep pits remain, these don't seem to heal. :irked: I've been keeping his nitrates at around 10ppm and for now is being fed only Hikari Bio-Gold and NLS Thera+A...

I agree, just feed him high quality cichlid food. I must be a minority because I never liked the huge head.

Thanks, I just wish I knew what caused it and why it advanced so fast. It makes me feel sick every time I think of it especially since it's on a fish that I'll probably never get the chance of owning again. :(

I've only used black gravel with the fish in my avatar. My jag was kept on natural and couldn't look any better, I think putting him on black would of only mudded him up.

Well I've treated for 4 days now and I have enough meds for another day but the holes in her head seem to be just getting worse. She doesn't really act any different than normal, a little more skittish but that's kind of expected with as often as I've been messing with her water. I don't know...

But if it was something with the water itself why is this not affecting my flowerhorn?
