Breeding Setups

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
This thread is geared towards helping some people set up simple to run, space affective, healthy systems to breed with... Alot of people are visual which is why I asked to see set ups.

Come on everyone... Lets see em!!

I'll post one of my Convict tanks tonight just to show that it doesn't have to be anything elaborate... Guppies, Betta's, Platies, Convicts, JD's, Cories.... it doesn't matter what your breeding...

My 29 gallon angelfish breeding tank. No pics of eggs or fry except when they were in my 55G.

Taking down soon. If anyone is interested in the pair PM me =)

The pair is now breeding, i gotta check them after posting :P

One strange thing i noted is that the female also picked up some eggs and blew them in the bubble nest. then (intentionally???) she swept her dorsal fin on the eggs and the eggs clumped to themselves in the bubble nest!!!

i'm quite new to betta breeding, i've never observed that before.

That's the breeding action caught on my mobile phone.
I'm sorry about the bad image quality :(

I am not currently breeding but I have experience with Yellow Labidochromis and Haplochromis Oblequedens. The Labidochromis were much easier.
I used 33 gallon long tanks (same as a 55 but not as tall) and hang on filters until the female was holding. After they spawned I switched to sponge filters only.

Some people might get into legal trouble if they show their breeding setups on computer.....

i take it you breed illegal fish?
because if not that sounds like you are.

For what???? Perfectly legal to breed Most fish... and those that don't follow the laws wouldn't have any reason to post in here anyway.... except maybe to give the 411

Not like anyone is putting a gun to anyones head here... simply asked for some various postings, either post... or don't :D

agreed
ill post my buddies breeding set up tonight aswell as mine

Breeding is over now. The breeding took place for 3 hours.
The female has been moved to her tank and fed freeze drier blood worms :)

Sorry to offend anyone with hybrids....But here we go...

I breed them in a 55 tall...I remove fry when they start to wriggle...

I put the fry in 3x 10's 2x 20's and a 60..Of course I let the parents keep some with them...

I run a Rena xp3 on the parents tank, and all of the fry tanks are at least 4x over filtered..For instance..On one of the 20's I run an AC 70 and an AC 50...

The filtration has to be heavy, because fry NEED to eat a lot more often than older fish...

I keep live plants and snails in all of my fry tanks...I feed crushed flakes, pellets, and crushed dehydrated worms...

I change 10% of the water everyday on all tanks involved....

So for the pair I use 50 tall, 10, 10, 10, 20, 20, 60...Also included, a video.....
