Hello! I have a alligator gar thats approx, 8 inches in length. The question I wanted to know was are they suppose to be active? Mines stays in the upper corner of the tank alot! At night he's a little more active. I have him in a 125 gallon. Thanks

one of my florida does that too
i have kept him in a 15 g as he is just too small to go in with the others
but he sure is a pig and always has surprised me
he is just 4" but managed to eat my rosies which were just a little more than half an inch
shall be adding a few plants to see if that will change his behaviour

yea that arent a very active fish because they are slow but ussually in the wild they move in groups and they like to sit in bottoms of rivers where its real deep at least thats wat alligator gars do

Mine stays at the top only leaving for minows, I almost want to buy more to see them more active but I read that gators should be kept alone.

i had a ton of live plants and he always hung out amongst them ( not at the top, and not at the bottom) as he got larger he liked to lay at the bottom of the tank. he would lay amongst the plants and stalk the live feeders.
