I've never had a saltwater setup before, and just wondering a few basics.

If I wanted to convert my 100 Gallon over to salt (fish only) would I need anything else on my setup?

a. 48" Corallife grow light
b. Rena XP3
c. Aqua Clear 110
d. 210 Powerhead
e. 18 Watt UV Sterilizer
f. Glass 100 Gal Tank
g. 300 Watt Heater

Do I need a protein skimmer if I am not intrested in live rock?
Do I need anything else if I just want a few saltwater fish?

a protien skimmer isn't for the live rock, it's extremely usefull because it pulles tons of liquified fish **** out of the water, i'm pulling over 8oz(rough estimate) of nasty brown/green waste out of my tank every 3~4 days with my skimmer, stuff i'd rather not have in my tank. the UV sterilizer isn't needed. because you won't have the advantage of live rock and a really good filter go very lightly on your stocking, as in just a few small SW fish.

get the skimmer, and atleast get 20 lbs of live rock. Also invest in live sand, but not absolutely needed. Consider your type of water used as well. I suggest RO water because this limits the amount of nitrients being added to the water, therfore giving it more stablility and also allowing your to control it better as well.

good luck
