As a newbie to marine tanks, which is best? upon recommendation I put pool filter sand in my freshwater tank some time ago and I've been very happy with it. I've heard though that it's not fine enough for marine tanks so go with playsand. Others though have warned against playsand due to anti-bacterial chemicals in it as well as it being hard to clean. What is the recommendation from experienced marine tank aquarists here?

if you can find south-down then go with that because it is a fine argonite sand, otherwise it's a good idea to get a dry argonite sand and if you want to add some live sand on top of it.

no, i've not seen south-down. there is a kind of argonite sand available at a high-end and very pricey place near me though. I'm willing to pay to do it right. thanks.
