hi, i have 2 eheim 2217's on my 125gal tank right now, but i was going to pick up another 125gal tank this week and i was wondering if i can use just 1 2217 on each tank or should i just get a eheim pro 2080 for the other tank. the 2217 is rated for about 160 gallons, but i dont want to put a strain on the 2217. i know that extra filtration is good, but will one 2217 be enough for the 125gal?

Run the Eheim 2217s on each tank, they are more than enough bio capacity to run a 125. Throw 1 or 2 AC110s on each tank for mech filtration and you'll be set.

Howdy,

It really depends on what you want to stock it with. I had a 2217 on a 75 gal but that wasn't enough turnover. Water chem was fine, but mech was lacking. I am now running a 2080 on my 75 gal and it's good. The 2080 was underpowered for my 220 gal.

I run an fx5 on my 125 and I think its just about right. I don't put much faith in the manufacturers ratings.

thank you very much in helping me out. i thought that if a manufacturer puts a rating on the box it should actually mean something. oh well i guess that i'll be splitting up the 2217's and buy an additional mech filter for them also. thanks again.
