Eheim substrat question

I run both in my Canisters.
Physically it isn't too much different, Substrat is like little chunks of some special kind of rock essentially (I clearly know what I'm talking about!). Substrat Pro is the better of the two, I don't think it has any more surface area, but I believe it lasts longer and has some other positive qualities.
Both are exceptional products that I highly recommend. Also look into Seachem Matrix.
Edit: Eheim Website informs me it's sintered glass. Eheim website lists 50%~ longer lasting and washable, and pH Neutral as the differences, though my pH wasn't effected at all by Substrat.
