I was using a skilter 400 for my SW setup, but I took that down. I was going to use for a freshwater tank, as it has a huge capacity for media, but the motor housing was leaking. I ordered some new rings for it, hope that takes care of it. Anyone have experience with this filter leaking or using it for freshwater?

The problem sounds like the O ring is dried out. If it drys out it won't seal properly. You can go to TLF and get some O ring lube, it looks like clear grease. You just put a tiny bit on your finger and roll it in your hand to get it all covered. If they don't have any you can go to a scuba store and ask them for some O ring lube and they will have some for sure, they use it for there regulators and stuff.

I took the skimmer column out. The reason I like it for freshwater is that the container is huge and it will hold a lot of media while moving 400 gph. It's bigger than an AC 110, but not as powerful. Plus, I have nothing else to do with it. I already have 1700 gph moving on that 75, just figured I would add some extra insurance.

I started out with that filter cause I couldn't afford a skimmer. I added a fine wooden airstone and it worked for a bit. I finally upgraded to a CPR bak pak and threw it away cause hte motor died on me.

Thanks to everyone. I got the new O-ring and some lube, and now everything is working great.
