Just broke down and got a new Fluval Fx5 for my 150 off ebay for $189 shipped! I was tired of hearing the constant waterfall of the HOBs on my 55 and 30 gallon tanks upstairs so I thought using the two fluval 405s I originally had on my 150 would quiet them down.

I'm not going to be overstocking any of the above mentioned tanks so do you guys think with the current filtration I'm planning to use I will be able to achieve the much desired filtration overkill?

IMO, one FX5 per 120-150 gallons of reasonably stocked aquaria is just about right. However, I would devote all of the central media space to biologic media.

I always seem to have noisy impellers in my old Fluvals, but my FX5 is nice and quiet. I hope it stays that way.
