thought about an elephant nose.
either something that is eel like as long as it will fit eating small fish is not a problem like a peacock tiretrack fire eel you name it

Middle of somewhere, Oulu Wisconsin
Consider an Electric Catfish *caution* predatory
Freshwater Flounder
BumbleBee Catfish *caution* fiesty and prey on anything half it's size
Archer Fish (Toxotes jac.)
Belonesox
Mudminnow
StickleBack

Just a few suggestions off the top of my head.

Hujeta gar. (Not a true gar). They max out at 10", are peaceful with tankmates that aren't small enough to eat, and do well in small schools. They prefer live food and can usually be purchased for less that $15 each depending upon size. Here's one of my 4 that I have.

Here's some more info on them. Click here.

Halfbeaks would be cool.

Don't completely rule out tetras. There is some pretty awesome looking tetras out there.

exodons are pretty cool, and blind cave tetras are oddballs in the truest sense of the word

To go with what you have, I would suggest definitely get another rope fish - the interaction of two is priceless

Since you seem to like true oddballs, and you have some African fish already, how about a Congo River-oddball tank:

African butterfly fish (Pantodon buchholzi)
Upside down catfish (Synodontis nigriventris)
Elephant nose (Gnathonemus petersii, which you already mentioned)

Along with a fern and some sunken mangrove roots (faux)

I Like It!!!
