I've seen the term "proven pair" used several times on this site. Someone recently asked me if I had any "proven pairs" of cichlids for sale...and I didn't know what to tell him.

So what does "proven pair" mean?

- That a pair has produced fertilized eggs?
- That a pair has produced fry?
- That a pair has raised fry?
- That a pair has raised fry multiple times?
- That a pair has raised fry multiple times and the male and female can co-exist peacefully?

Opinions would be great.

Thanks!

Some pairs - a couple of the angelfish pairs I have, for example - spawn regularly but reliably eat their eggs. I artificially raise the eggs and produce tons of fry.

I spawn a lot of central american cichlids through a divider b/c the males can be rough on the females.

All would be "proven pairs"
