I'm curious if I could use beach sand in a freshwater tank setup?

There is a lot more to rinsing salt water sand!!1

I had a 60gl up and running for 2 yrs and I had beach sand in it.
I got a 5gl bucket and took it home, washed the hell out of it and baked it for 3 days (1hr, 2 times a day at about 1/8" thick). Everytime i baked it, I would wash it again.
I first put in potting soil (frogot the exact name of it) then with a 1/2" layer of baked beach sand followed by my gravel. I was using the sand to keep the potting soil from moving... so my plants could use it...
make a long story short, It worked for me and I had a 5" Scomb and 2 VATFs, frontosa, feeders... diff fish with in that time and I kept 2 of the fish throu out the process and had no probs.
With that being said... I dont reccom only cause I didnt know to much and as deep as I do know but if you do Bake the hell out of it to try to kill any junk in the sand.
JMO, dont quote me on it:D
