I am planning to use sand in my 95g tank and i was wondering if i should put a layer of gravel under it? also how do i clean the tank with the sand? will a normal vac work? also please let me know if there are any other important things i might need to know in regards to my first sand setup! preciate all of the help

Howdy,

A lot of sand-related info is available thru our search option. You'll get some great hints and tips when you browse our forum that way. It will help you to decide between pool filter sand and play sand, too. My Malaysian trumpet snails keep my sand clean, and no, I do not have gravel underneath. I like the straight look of sand.

One thing you have to be aware of is possible grinding of pumps if they are not physically separated from your filter intake by media or a settling space. Just something to consider.
