my two tanks arrived today {60 g each}...im gonna set them up for cycling...
i wanna knw the fastest and the best method...
i did the search on "cycling" here and decided to dump some 100 minnows in each tank...and few koi and gold fishes {all of whom will eventually end up as feeders}....
will also put in some gravel from old tanks to help introduce the bacteria into the tank...
i got one question...how many days will it take for me to get the tank ready?
i'll also put in some dried shrimps and a lot of fish food...

cheers

don't put that many fish in to cycle the tank! it will just kill them off quickly. I cycled a 75g with 10 zebra danios in one month, and then cycled a 55g in less than a week using 5 zebra danios and a seeded filter from my 75g. You can also do a fishless cycle using a rotting piece of shrimp in you tank, and then replace it with fish when the ammonia, nitrite=0. But whatever you do, DON'T just dump in a bunch of fish!

You searched here and came to that conclusion??

I need to see those posts:nilly:.

:iagree: with Onion01 for the most part.

Add some of the old gravel to the filter directly (what type of filter are you using).

But for the fishless cycle use the ammonia method it's more efficient and regulated.

no, that really won't help that much. It is better not to try to cut corners. I once put in 60 guppies into a 60g to cycle it fast. They were all dead in 2 days, the tank smelled HORRIBLE, and my cycle was all screwed up. Either do a fish cycle with a few small fish, or a fishless cycle with some source of ammonia. I suggest fishless

arite...will do fishles cycle...
my only concern abt using a raw shrimp was i read somewhere that it might introduce fungus into the tank

Fishless is the way to go. To many small poor fish die these days.

Recently I was at the pet store and heard a lady say that she wants to get some fish for her kids but didn't want to get anything expensive because they will probably die! WTF BUY THEM IN THE FIRST PLACE?

GRRRR, sorry venting. Fishless.....Fishless...

The last reference was for S/W using the prawn.;)

I could fine nowhere to dump in 100 fish tho :WHOA:.

Moving on now, if you already have the fish in the tank, your going to need to do alot of aeration and W/C's to make it work.

What is you filtering system?
