Hey all,

Would it be fine to use rinsed play sand from Home Depot as a substrate for Jack Dempsey's, or do I need to buy a finer sand such as 3M's, or Tahitian Moon?

Thanks,

Bobby

Play sand is fine, it just takes a good bit of rinsing. I prefer pool filter sand though, as it's denser and settles quicker.

Pool filter sand is the way to go. Make sure you rinse it till till it run clear from a bucket. It settles better and is really easy to clean. I have convicts who move it around nicely.

After cleaning the play sand out of a 30 gallon I just bought the other day, I'll never use it. I will stick to pool filter sand because it is so much easier to keep clean and maintain.

Playsand will work as others said, but I would avoid it too. It is so light in weight, you can kiss any power filters goodbye.
