people have had success with amazon swords, but mine destroyed all plants i have put in, so it could go either way

Java ferns, Java moss worked (I tied them to things). The sword plants worked till they really started digging. Some people have success if you tie them to grates, or plant them in pots and then put large rocks around them so the fish can't dig in the sand. Over time mine were ripping off the leaves and I stopped using them.

Java ferns, anubias, and vals work well. But most cichlids like to dig them up. I don't have much problems with my cichlids biting at the plants but every water change I have to replant them cause the cichlids dig them up.
