I have a 6 inch spotted gar and it seems all hey will eat or atleast all I will see him eat are feaders. Is there any other food I could teach him to eat? DO they go around and find food when the lights go out any info. PLEASE!!!!
if thats all he'll eat then thats all you feed.
try to get him off live after the 8 inch mark.
one thing that has always worked for me is freezedried krill.
i got all of mine off live using that without the need to starve.
after that, you can feed basically anything.
Crickets are a very good transition food. It teaches them to search the surface for food, then start dropping pellets, FD Krill, etc. in place of the Cricket. Often times they will at least strike at the food and eventually will start accepting it. Don't hesitate to offer live foods if this process takes too long. After the fish reaches roughly 10" he will be much more durable and will be able to go a little longer without food.
