hey guys,
i want to buy a spotted gar.
in a locale aquarium dealer nearby they have lepisosteus oculatus.
they are small, about 10 cm still.
i know they get huge and thats exactly what i want.
These are spotted gar right? or are they florida gar?
they dont look like the adult ones i see on youtube.
this one has a solid brown stripe on the side.
is this always the case when juvi or arent these real oculatus?

it's next to impossible to tell the difference between spotted gars anf florida gars in home aquaria, and there's really no point. all lepisosteus sp juvenile gars have the solid lateral stripe. im still betting it's a spotted/florida gar thou. get us a pic, we can get u a definite ID

completely agree with xander. its practically impossible to distinguish a florida/spotted gar in captivity. unless you know the locality of where the fish was obtained (if its wild caught). but like said above get us a pic and we can get u an ID.
