silver shark aka bala shark?

is a silver shark the same as a bala/tri-color shark (Balantiocheilus melanopterus)? i just bought 2 small ones at the LFS and they said silver sharks get about 10" while bala/tri-color get a foot long but are otherwise similar

everything i've read and seen online says they are synonyms, what do you guys think?

If it has black on the fins it is a bala. If not it is probably this one, Labiobarbus leptocheilus (silver sharkminnow)
