Are there any cichlids from Lake Malawi that can survive the cycling process and the ammonia spike like zebra danios can? I am setting up an mbuna tank so it would be appreciated if they were mbuna, but if they're not mbuna, let me know anyways. Also, could synos survive the cycling process/ammonia spike. If synos work, could I put six to twelve 1"-3" synos (probably upside down cats) by themselves in a nintey gallon.

I would stick with Zebra Danios or something similar. Why take a chance with much more expensive fish?

I used goldfish for my tank then took them back to the store when it was all over.

Id use a few Pseudotropheus, if you watch your water parameters and do small water changes when needed you wont harm the fish enough to worry about long term damage.

Do you have any other tanks to seed the BB?
