For an Mbuna only community tank, I would say a good minimum size is 55 gallons. You could have 15 to 20 Mbuna in a tank this size IMO.

i have a 29g mbuna tank. My firsh are perfectly fine. For now i only have P. Saulosi stocked in their. Beautiful fish as the males turn into a blue with black bars and females stay yellow. Just look up dwarf mbuna speices.

Tough question to answer since there are so many variables. We would nee to know a tank size, quantity or species before we could answer your question.

My fish are much more lively in their new 55 than they ever were in the 30 that I had them in previously (and they weren't even full grown). Despite the fact that the footprint is the most important spec of an mbuna tank, the upgrade from a 30 to a 55 made a huge difference. Your best bet is to save yourself the trouble of upgrading and start out with at least a 55 gallon tank.
