I purchased 4 dats all about 5" about 2 weeks ago; they came nice with the strip really bold and thier gold color shimmering, but after 1 week they turn gray and no stripes and hidding sideways under a HUGE piece of Driftwood I have in the tank..I was wondering if this is normal how long does this last or is this thier nature! by the way they eat krill..water is a little soft PH 6.4..

You barely got ur fish, it takes time to settle in to be stable. It could also be your water. Most of the time its just their personality that makes them dark and bold. Like when my friend had an NTT he would feed it feeder and the bars would darken up as he chase the feeders.
This is a common trait amongst Dats, more so with Indo Dats, than others.
GIve then a 2 or 3 months to settle in.
PH is a littel too soft. Tigers prefer harder water.
Just remember, its very rare to have a Tiger that retains his gold and black stipes ALL the TIME. I only have 1 out of 11 that is like that.

My thin bars have perfect color when they eat rosies / earth worms
95% of the time they have poor color and hide
they are around 4" and have been in the tank ~3-4 months
My Silver dats are 1"-3" and have perfect color 90% of the time
Hopefully both our NTT's color up lol

mine is just like yours. i got them at a fish store i know thinking that it will brighten up. so it still hasnt but its very active. i dont think its unstable either.
