I have a 20 gallon tank that I got off a friend in 1990. Came with an AquaClear mini HOB and a PennPlax heater. (had to check what Brand) I have moved countless times in that span of 17 years and have had this tank running almost the whole time. Maybe 2 years where it was not running, and both of these pieces are working as well as the day I got them.
I am actually quite shocked that the heater still works, it being one of those cheap kit pieces.

I haven't had mine running as long as you guys, but my aquaclears and fluvals are pretty reliable.

I ran an old style Supreme Aquamaster over the course of 10 to 15 years.
It was truly the old style that was HOB, with the large can motor on top of the box attached to the pump unit. It was quiet, and wouldn't quit. I regret letting it go with one of my old aquariums.

me....
Aquaclear's by far... and VISI THERM heaters - never quit for me.
Just got some of the cheap CASCADE underwater canister filters. LOVE THEM! Put 'em anywhere in the tank and excellent flow for the size. No complaints yet.

This thread is a bit old but I've got to mention my "Quiet One" (modified Grundfos) pump running my wet-dry on one of my tanks. It only gets a 10 min rest once a month when I change the prefilter. It's really quiet, even after accidentally letting some grit get sucked into it. I've only opened it once in 10 years+ to clean the impeller.
I've also have 5 Eheim cannister filters that have been running for 15 years... largely trouble-free.
