I am in the planning phase of a 1,500 gallon tank that will primarily house rays. I am looking for recommendations on filtration. I am not as interested in building my own w/d and have been researching a few "commercial" grade pressure filters. What are your experiences/recommendations?

Johnptc runs aquadyne bead filters on his large tanks also but you still may want to look at adding an above tank sump for more biofiltration. Also maybe "T" in a #2 sock filter for water polishing once in awhile.
When your looking at these types of filters some require air assistace for backwashing but use less water on a backwash. Just something to look at.
I'm in the process of building a 12' x 8' x 4' plywood tank but can't finish till I can find a large enough piece of acrylic in Alberta (been loooking for 2 months) and either the filter nic said or the aquadyne are the best I could find.

Heat loss is about surface area, temperature differential, and conductivity. Sizing a heater is really hard, especially without knowing those things. There are a few calculators online, but putting in the same parameters will be like +\- 50% range, just because they use the same math but different assumptions.

Insulate any non viewing sides, keep the room temp up and tank temp down, and keep it as covered as possible.

The inline heaters are really expensive. I'd personally just do 3 or 4 smaller heaters and put them on a controller. If in tank put a guard on them.

Looking forward to your build.
