when you get sick of the hobby and decide to quit, keep all your stuff because you will eventually be pulled back in.

don't believe everything u hear and see about the hobby.. especially, at the LFS and online...

Make sure to read up on the fish before you buy it, it will save you both money and trouble.

Don´t buy fish on impulse when you are new in the hobby, you will just end up with rtc,CK and 5 pacus in a 55

do proper research on filtration and water qaulity or youl end up underfiltered or not with the proper filter you would like

Can we poat ideas for DIY stuff? If so, ive got one:

if youve got a powerhead in a reef tank, as most people who have reefs do, and the powerhead has a small hole as its intake, then floating bits of algae as well as snails, sea hares, etc. are likely to get sucked in, clog up the powerhead, and be killed. Ive found an alternative to buying big cartriges to put over the intake hole, and all thats needed are a cutting of screen material (preferably the sort of plastic, bendy kind) and some little rubber bands (rubber bands with a 3/8 inch diamete work very well and can be found easily at any orthodontist's office).
Make a screen cutting thats about 2.5" by 2.5". Fit it over thr intake, and put the rubber bands on the raised area around the hole to keep thescreen on. Pushthe rubber bands further down the raised area ans they should stay on.
And there you have it. Only problem is, the bands have to be replaced every once in a while (every month or so)

think before you buy, make sure if thats the fish you want

get as large of tank as possible on the original purchase, because you'll always want bigger anyway. there is no start small in this hobby

Don't take your jacket off quickly next to your arowana tank...
It ends badly and you have lots of water to clean off the floor.
