With the lighting you have in there, you should be able to grow a lot of java fern in there. That will really help with the nitrate. Try attaching them to the rocks. The other thing to try is some floating plants like water sprite. They're real nitrate sponges also.

I am going to try this. It'd be nice to have some plants filling in around things. It definitely can't hurt to try anyway.

AMAZING!!!! I hope to set up a tank like that some day. What about the floor being able to manage the weight of the tank...is it sitting on a concrete or steel beam?
