Finally got a gar

I'm just glad to have a gar, besides.. I'm kind of glad it's not a gator, cause I just don't have the room for something like that. Plus I expected as much when I went to pick him up, most LFS don't know the difference between gars.

He's already eating like a little pig, which is good for his first day in his temp home, he's in my 10 gallon until I get another tank for my big boys! Then he'll go in my 40 gallon for awhile, until he is big enough to put in with my bigger fish.

how does it look like a gator from the lateral view? just curious as to the diagnostics other people see. the snout is not short enough nor is the body stout enough.

this is either a Florida or shortnose gar...most likely the former, definitely not a gator gar. good luck with it; keep it well fed and keep up with water changes and it will grow quickly for you--
