What is a wet/dry filter, are they strictly saltwater, how do they work, etc, etc. Any info you have would be helpful. Thanks

A wet/dry filter works in fresh or salt water. It is a biofilter; you will need some kind of mechanical filtration prior to the wet/dry. It is a combination between a trickle filter (in which water is allowed to drip through media) and a submersed filter (in which the media is underwater). The idea is that it provides the beneficial bacteria some different options of places to live, and so encourages maximum bacterial growth.

Trickle filters provide excellent gas exchange, but can have unused dry spots; submersed filters have the opposite characteristics. Wet/dry filters are intended as a "best of both worlds" compromise.
