i have black substrate in my 55 gallon and all my fish have darkened in color. my lemon oscar has almost black fins, and my red oscar is a dark red. my convicts show no color what-so-ever. if i lightend up the substrate in my tank would it lighten up my fish colors?

It will some, fish will tend to mimic their surroundings in light color vs. dark color. Objects in the tank can also have an effect on them.
how long have they been in there?
I have black gravel in my tank and my fish are bright. my LFS uses black gravel in most of their tank and it doesn't seem to make a difference.
they may darken at first, but after a while they should colour up normally.

well the main reason i ask is because my cons have no coloring at all. so i was wondering if it were my substrate or if i need to get them into a knew tank...
