Harvesting blackworms

I've been culturing California blackworms for a month or so now and would love to feed them more but the harvesting is such a hassle. At best I still have some of the brown paper bag media ending up in the tank. I'm curious to see what others are doing to harvest their worms efficiently. I read in Culturing Live Foods by M. Hellwig to scoop up the worms, media and all, in a net and let them sit to allow the worms to wiggle their way out. I've used a "large" size mesh net and it didn't seem to work too well. Do I need to use a coarser mesh? Any help is much appreciated.

I place cut up sponge inserts in the culturing container. They take refuge in all of the open pores and are easily extracted. All I do is pull out a piece of sponge, let them drop onto a paper towel, and drop the worms in one-by-one for my nano-fish.
