Aquarium Lighting Options

Ive got a 55 gallon african cichlid tank, and Im looking into a new lighting system... I bought my tank second hand so I dont even know what I have now.. but the reflector is a piece of crap and the two bulbs are different colors... and its time to move on

Im just looking for some suggestions as to the types of lights I should look at.. LED, fluorescent etc...Im interested in eventually adding some live plants to to the mix, so Id like them to have the right spectrum lighting...

I really like the look of the leg mounts I've seen on lights in pictures
Can you just buy those and fit them onto a lighting fixture?
